Phoenix, Talent students build bed frames for victims of the Almeda Fire

Talent Maker City is hosting workshops for students to learn new carpentry skills and help their communities rebuild.

Newswatch 12's josh shelton tells us how even those who lost everything are helping their community.

Outside of talent maker city, students are taking part in a workshop where they're learning new skills.

In this case: building some beds.

But they aren't just harnessing skills for the future, they're also helping a community rebuild.

Sunday's are filled with the sounds of saws... buzz of saw the whirl of drills... drilling noises and hope.

Students from phoenix and talent are building beds for victims of the almeda fire as it continues on the long road to recovery.

Allison french says, "it's really special to have the community come together and help with these.

It's touching and it's awesome."

Talent maker city is hosting workshops where students learn skills in areas like carpentry.

With help from girls build and other donations, beds are provided at no cost to families in need.

Bryan flores says, "it made me really happy, i hope that we keep having workshops like this and can slowly start making and refilling our homes to what we used to have."

Bryan flores came to the workshop to build a bed frame for those who lost everything... just like him.

Bryan flores says, "my neighborhood burned down with many of my friends' neighborhoods, and just being able to have the opportunity to make my own bed.

It really excited me."

French says, "it's a sign of our resiliency.

We're going to come out of this ok on the other side because even if you were impacted by the fire, you're still willing to roll up your sleeves and get in and do something."

For bryan, building his own bed frame is a healing process that he hopes extends throughout phoenix and talent.

Flores says, "it'll be fun and it'll help others at the same time so i feel like it'd be really great if the entire community did something like this."
