(Part 4 of 4) Singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding burst onto the pop scene a decade ago but quietly stepped away from the limelight to focus on herself.

CBS's Anthony Mason chats with the singer in London

Ri singer songwriter ellie goulding burst onto the pop music scene a decade ago, releasing hits such as "lights.

But after a wildly successful tour in 2017, she quietly stepped away to focus on herself.

Anthony mason talked to goulding from her london apartment.

Leaving the limelight seemed an unusual move for a young chart- topper, but ellie goulding's success was all-consuming.

The british singer has been making music since she was 10& music full 'what did you find in music?"

"i found a type o escape that i didn't have in anything else."

//"it just w everything.

Music was everything to me as a kid."

Natsot: "anything ca happen" she was 22 when she signed a record deal, and her career took off like a rocket.

At least at first, she enjoyed the ride& "it can be craz good fun where you're just, you know, somewhere different every night, you're meeting new people, you're drinking // you're a rock star."

Nat sot: goulding performing "was that the lif you wanted?

Or did you even know what you wanted?"

"i had no idea.

I ha no idea.

// and suddenly i was straight on the road.

So i had no real chance to figure out or understand what perhaps any kind of normality was in my 20s'.

So i've only ever really known chaos.

The chaos was tracked closely by the british tabloids...from boyfriends to breakups.

Goulding began to experience panic attacks, and says, on-stage she started to feel like a robot.

"you know, i spen my entire 20s being this other person,// never really being fully myself, never having a lot of friends.

And then suddenly i'm this, you know, 30 year old woman.

And out of nowhere, i'm trying to figure out who i am."

In 2017, goulding took time off to begin a self- interrogation.

Battling anxiety, she entered therapy.

"when you wen looking for yourself, did you like the person you found?"

"initially, no.

// felt like i was self- centered.

I felt like i had taken a lot of things for granted."

Were you having conversations with yourself during all of this ha ha.

"i'm sure had quite a few.

Conversations with myself is the best way to write music// things come out you don't expect.

"how did you en up sorting that all out?"

"well, i moved t new york."

Natsot music full: "when th memories pack up and leave, it will set me free&" in the anonymity of new york, with few friends, goulding wandered the city alone... and that's when she met an art dealer named caspar jopling.

"part of the wa through these last few years, you got married."

"i did.

Yes!

"so you ended up i a good place."

"i did."//"when i caspar, you know, it was not the stuff of,//love at first sight, or me going off writing, you know, love poems// the fact that it was so normal - that's when i knew.

Because everything else i've experienced had gone straight into a song.

And when i met him, i didn't want to write a song."

"what do you thin that meant?"

"it just meant tha it was something sacred.

"it's something yo wanted to keep for yourself?"

"yeah.

So there's no song on "brightes bnlue" about ho ellie goulding found her husband, but the album is all about how she found herself& natsot music full "i faced my fears til i made it here..."

"it sounds lik you've come a long way."

"i have.

It's been long journey.

But you know what?

It's not - it's not over yet.

I just know it in my bones.

//i do look forward to it."
