It's an important first for the piece's composer: twelve-year-old grace moore.

Where do you even start?

Grace moore: 16:33:17 well, you start by creating i guess-- a catchy bunch of notes.

And then you// just add on to those notes the brooklyn seventh grader is part of the philharmonic's very young composers -- a program that teaches children how to create music.

Philharmonic president deborah borda says it's all part of a mission to expose classical music to new audiences and creators.

Deborah borda: 15:41:57 it is critical that symphony orchestras, which frankly have been seen as a sort of elite bastion, and very white bastion, that we begin to live in the 21st century, that we invite in people of all different kinds.

It's a time of discovery for everyone involved.

With its season cancelled because of the pandemic, the philharmonic launched its "bandwagon series.

Partnering with metropolitan opera star anthony costanzo, philharmonic musicians perform pop-up concerts out of a rented pick up truck.

The surprise concerts have hit a high note with audiences.
