Teaching them the voting process

Lake was last dredged.

It's been said that democracy is doomed if we don't participate, and participation starts young.

Case in point: a local school district today held a presidential straw poll in which students could make their choice in 2020's tumultuous presidential race.

Kimt news 3's alex jirgins joins us live with a lesson in democracy.

George ?

"* you said it best.

Many schools across iowa ?

"* including right here in mason city took part in the straw poll ?

"* a week away from the general election.

History teacher ann ott is facilitating the poll this year ?

"* and tells me that this is a great way to provide insight into the political process for those who are not yet of voting age ?

"* as well s comparing how their results stack up against their fellow students "sometimes, it aligns with the results of the adults, and sometimes it doesn't.

It's fun to do that comparison with them."

I have reached out to other schools in our area participating for results.

I'll have those posted under this story later today at kimt dot com.

Live in mason thank you alex.

These kids straw poll exercises are catching on nationwide... even major media organzations are doing them.

The washington post's kidspost is counting votes right now in a kids?

"* only election.
