Shannon high school here has seen its share of tragedy this year with deaths (how many) on top of adjusting to the pandemic.

The school's librarian spoke with us, and she shared how fun activities are providing students a place to go where they can feel safe.

Take pkg: "our school has had several tragedies that have happened."

"anxiety and stresses are very high among students due to covid-19 and distant learning."

And, calley perry said, is why she and her fellow library club members put their heads together to find ways to help.

"the kids came up with some of the greatest ideas."

Library media specialist jennifer king said one of those was a pumpkin painting party that took place last week.

A frankentstein, a pikacchu pokemon, and other creative painted pumpkins designs found their way onto the display table in the school library.

"we just felt like that might be an outlet that they could, could let out some stress."

Another idea was simply playing board games.

Standup: "ok..

Card games are not my strong point.

Right now, they're teaching me how to play apples to apples."

King also explained the library is taking sanitary precautions for the coronavirus.

No more than two students can sit at one table at a time, and sanitaizing spray and wipes stand ready to go.

Perry said the entire school got to participate in one of their events which involved dressing up for a whole week.

"we did something different every day.

I think my favorite was tropical tuesday."

King said the library is open to students any time of day.

"i want em to feel safe when they come in here, and a lot of them use it as a safe to students any time of day.

"i want em to feel safe when they come in here, and a lot of them use it as a safe place to come."

Nat sound: students talking ally melandez is vice president of the library club.

She said she feels the library having these activities is helping all students involved.

"i think it's boosting some morale, because a lot of things that like we used to be able to do, like field trips and stuff, we can't do that anymore because of the coronavirus pandemic."

"i feel like it's helping a lot because we've got a lot of stuff planned this year."

Reporter outro: a post on shannon's facebook page says the library upcoming activities include tie-dying shirts, learning to knit, and even cooking.
