W-t-v-a's bronson woodruff is joining us now live from downtown tupelo where the major thoroughfare program committee's meeting just ended.
I'm at tupelo city hall where the tupelo city council will choose which tupelo roads it will put on the ballots in february to update.
"we're gonna be asking voters to vote on another five-year term for this program."
Greg pirkle is chairman of the major thoroughfare committee.
In today's meeting, the committee presented a list of roads to the tupelo city council to consider for updates and repairis next year.
Some roads the committee presented to the city council included west jackson from airpark to thomas, and jackson from madison to front.
"we started this last phase with some of jackson.
This time, we're gonna complete most of jackson.
It'll be three lane, not five lane, but it will be three land, adding that turn lane in the middle."
He said the committee got requests from the public and from committee members on which roads to update.
They also look at how heavily people use the roads are used when deciding.
Pirkle explained the committee requests for 75 percent of the 10 mil property tax twill go for for improvement of new roads, and 25 percent will go to maintaining existing roads.
Pirkle said the public gets to vote on the plan in february.
If the people vote it through, pirkle said the projects could start in october of 2021.
