Body found under bridge in Eugene

Fire crews had initially responded to a fire and explosion, and Eugene police arson investigators were called in and are investigating.

At 11-- eugene police are investigating a dead body found under a pedestrian bridge in south eugene.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live at the scene and tells us what we know so far.

Chynna-- the body was discovered around 4 this afternoon by parameidcs under this pedestrian bridge behind me.

Eugene- springfield initially responded to the scene after reports of an explosion and fire were called in-- that's when they found the body.

The body was discovered at the pedestrian bridge that crosses amazon creek and connects the two sides of east 39th avenue.

Officials were on the scene for hours-- investigating what happened.

One neighbor i spoke with says he runs over the bridge every morning and is not surprised a body was found there.

I run across people who have been doing drugs on the bridge so i'm not surprised a body was found because i have run across people who are unsheltered dalton also says over the last few months more a lot more homeless people have been pitching tents along amazon creek.

Eugene police say their arson unit is investigating.

Chynna-- this is still a very active investigation and eugene police is asking anyone with any information to call the department.
