Chico crime in downwards trend, except one category is the highest it's been in two years

However, not all crime is trending downward in the pandemic, and the graphs make it clear, that aggravated assault numbers haven't been this high since the beginning of 2018.

P-d released their third quarter crime report and the crime data shows nearly all types of crimes are lower than this time last year.

With information we gathered from chico p-d, we know overall crime is trending downward, but aggravated assaults are the highest they've been in two years.

The quarter 3 crime report in 2019 showed property crimes in chico ended with an upward trend.

But this year -- "robbery down, the thefts are going down, vehicle thefts are going down, arson is going down."

And the data shows this is the chico crime portal that shows where the most crimes have happened, and it's broken down by category.

Chico p-d also gave action news this information that shows the downward trend.

We asked captain aldridge why this trend is happening?

"those are all in my perspective attributed to our citizens being at home, and not away from there personal property."

And people in chico have noticed "i was a university student, so we would get an email every time something happened to one of us.

So there was a period of time where the emails were constant, like an every weekend kind of thing.

We're not really getting those emails, as much as we used to every weekend."

However, not all crime is treading downward in the pandemic the graphs make it clear, that aggravated assault numbers haven't been this high since the beginning of 2018.

"we see a drastic increase in domestic violence and aggravated assault will entale that."

Captain aldridge shared this graph that shows citizen reported crimes are a recent all- time low at under 1,900.
