A non profit is making sure huntertown elementary students don't go without food on the weekends.however this year they've run into a challenge.

Fox 55's jentill neal tells us about the help they just received to keep up the momentum.

Local nonprofit boomerang backpacks serves 40 schools and three thousand students- making sure they have food during weekends.

This year however, they ran into a roadblock.>17:32:32-17:32:42 "the demand and the money just needs to be stretched to try to make sure all of these kids have that bag on the weekends."

The number of students receiving food went from 40 to 100 at huntertown elementary school for the boomerang backpacks.

>17:32:05-17:32:14 "every bag has like two breakfasts, protein, fruit, and snacks to kind of help those kiddos with hunger through the weekend."

Chad romey, an attorney with blackburn and green answered the call for help.

The law firm helped fill the gap by donating a month worth of soup for students.>17:28:16-17:28:31 "given the current climate with a lot of people on unemployment right now, boomerang backpacks has seen their needs go up so what we want to do is come along side them in this great work that they are doing and provide the support that we can."

Huntertown elementary principal casey stansifer says he sees the difference it makes to have this program and is grateful for the volunteers.

>"i think the boomerang backpack program is fantastic because it gives us the opportunity to make sure kids basic needs are met so we can focus on academics and learning, and we couldn't do it without them."

Pranger says they're always looking for extra assistance so anything helps.>"40 schools.
