Joseph school district announce that a two-point-three-million dollar reduce in the budget is to be for the remainder of the twenty-twenty and twenty- twenty one school year.
Now, with budget cuts, comes salary cuts for the school district most likely.
Superintendent dr. doug van zyl said "right now, we can't exactly say who it is going to effect becuase we have to take a look at hose everything is going to pan out the rest of the year."... (sot dr. doug van zyl, superindendent of sjpd "and the challenge for us, and dr. edgar said this last night.
For a school district, you don't save money by taking pencils or books or materials away from kids.
80% of our budget roughly is tied up in staff.
So, if we have to make reductions down the road, it's going to be taking a look at staff more than likely.") dr. van zyl also said that "it's not just going to happen over night.
We've got time to be able to work though this process" and that it was shared during the meeting that the district is in a good situation of fund balances where they are bale to hopefully mitigate this and manage it slowly.
Now this announcement did not come as a surprise to the board as the distrcit was expected to take a hit on funding due to lower enrollment of students this school year, and the building damage that occurred at central high school back in august...reporting in studio, danielle sachse, kq2 news
