Spooky Science: Experiments with Jason Lindsey
C1 3 we've got a fun experiment to help you get in the spirit.

When we start to hear spooky things, we see spooky things, but kids don't be concerned because all it is a science, right?
So you ready?

Speaker 2: so in front of you, you have a mystery matter.

This is all about matter.

I'm not going to tell you what it is yet.

But you're going to put your hand inside of this mystery matter if we don't know what matter is we describe it by its observable property.
So when you put your hand in there, is it hot?
Is it cold?
Is it wet obviously, because there's water.
You'll just describe it.
So once you do that, then you're going to scrape off your hand when you pull it out and then you're going to smack your hand down on this paper.
This paper is a special paper bleeds.

Do you have paper that bleeds at home?

Here's the science behind it.
It's pretty simple.
It's basically an indicator.
The paper is, and it indicates if something's an acid or a base.
So what is this mystery matter?
All it is is water and baking soda.
That's it.

It's going to create a foam monster.
This monster only eats kindergartners.

We call that viscous in science.
It kind of reminds me.
Speaker 1: looks like syrup to me.

It's very dark.
Here's a lighter one.
Speaker 2: this one.
I don't want kids to do at home because it can get very hot and a few seconds.
You'll observe just that.
I'm going to rapidly mix this up just like this.
And you'll notice the color change.
It goes from that dark color to now a creamy looking color.
I saw my latte.
Yeah, but you don't want to drink this because you might turn into something evil.

And now this feels like a sports vice sports play.
But what i will tell you is that it is getting darker and it's not, oh my goodness.
It's never done this, but speaker 1: oh, it's getting bigger the other day.

This one is a chemical reaction.
Meaning that i have mixed together two ingredients and i'm getting something new here.

Typically i need air to blow on it from my mouth.
We're not doing that because of covid to keep everyone safe.
But it looks like it's working just the way it's supposed to work.
That's cool.
