Here is the Sports Express Wrap from Friday, October 30, 2020.

Remain unbeaten this year.

We have high school field hockey and soccer action.

Plus... there's a new sherrif in town!

The new york mets have a new owner - we have the details.

(((2-shot))) hello everyone and welcome to sports express.

We have a few local teams who remain unbeaten this season - one of them being holland patent field hockey.

'ho-pa-fi-ho' as they call themselves is 8-0-1 this year - their tie coming against also unbeaten clinton.

Spencer the golden knights - three-time reigning section champs.

The marauders - final game on their schedule at the moment.

A win would certainly be memorable.

--- as soon as i showed up and focused my camera - there's madison oliver putting it in.

That made it 4-0 h-p.

--- chelsea mills keeper lauren kulpa tested heavily in this one.

She was solid...kicking away a shot from hanna corrigan.

These two would battle all game.

--- spencer 4-0 at the half - third quarter.

Knights with it.

Molly bathrick the shot - kulpa squeezes it together on the goal line and keeps it out.

H-p earns a corner but what a stop.

16 saves for her in the game.

--- chelsea we now tune in to the hanna corrigan show.

Final seconds of the third - the senior going to the back hand and finishing lower right...beating the buzzer to make it 5-0.

--- spencer in the fourth - corrigan taking on the entire marauders defense.

Pretty play capped off by a top notch finish.

Hanna with her sixth game this year with three or more goals.

--- chelsea but she wasn't done there spencer.

Later in the frame - another backhand rip finds the back of the net... (((score))) hanna "score-again" corrigan with six goals tonight - that's a new school record for a single game.

Golden knights win 8-0.

Spencer across the street on the soccer field - the golden knights hosting central valley academy and this game came down to the wire.

--- in the second half - still no score in the game.

Holland patent into the box.

Sawyer locke - to ken aucompaugh for the quick shot.

Cva's lucas rich making a diving stop.

--- chelsea at the other end - with 16 and a half to play.

Thunder on a run - long shot from creedon byard...jonathan tolpa there to gobble it up.

Nothing getting by these keepers so far.

--- spencer late in the frame - just three and a half to go.

H-p with its best chance thus far.

Locke - lobbed back door to william zimmerman who gets a foot on it but that goes just over the goal.

--- chelsea something's gotta give though - right?

Just two minutes to go before we'd need overtime.

Jack schroth with it.

Along the end line...stays with it...still with it...and he puts it in from the sharp angle!

What an effort from the senior there... (((score))) ...it took 38 minutes to get it done but that's the lone goal of the game and lifts holland patent to victory.

Spencer over in herkimer, the magicians hosted the little falls mounties in a girls soccer matchup.

-- the mounties are 6 and 3 on the season and have won three of their last four games.

The magicians are looking for their first win of the year.

-- chelsea about mid-way through the first half, nothing on the board yet, herkimer freshamn julieghanna herringshaw takes a free kick to give her team the advantage but little falls' keeper abby vadney runs out for the save.

-- spencer less than 10 minutes to go in the half, little falls junior olivia lindsay advances it to junior stella rowley, she sends a cross right in front of the goal, kylie kress gets a foot on it but bailey bray makes the save for the magicians!

(((score))) neither team found the back of the net in the first half...but little falls did in the second.

Junior shayna straney scored twice and olivia lindsay contributed one goal to give the mounties the win... 3-0.

Chelsea sticking with girls soccer, at west canada valley high school, the indians hosted the frankfort-schuyler maroon knights this afternoon.

-- west canada valley came into this game looking to end a 4- game losing skid, frankfort-schuyler playing to extend their win streak to three games.

-- spencer second half, still scoreless, senior hanna banas crosses the ball, it drops right in front of the goal, julie siegenthaler (see- gent-tahler) tries to connect but just misses it.

Nice opportunity there.

-- chelsea about 10 minutes left in this game, senior shae mcevoy kicks the free kick for the indians, lydia remier gets a foot on the ball but collides with the keeper, sophomore reece fellows follows it up and scores!

But its waved off due to a frankfort-schuyler foul in the collision.

(((score))) the would've ultimately been the game-winning goal.

But instead this game ends in a draw.

0-0.

Frankfort-schuyler adds another tie to the record.

(((2-shot))) (((start music when second anchor starts talking))) that'll take us to the first intermission on sports express.

Still to come - this week's featured athlete of the week.

But coming up next... a utica comet re- signs with the canucks and new ownership is in the air for the new york mets.

Now - let's check out other scores from around the area in our sports express scoremaster.

(((2-shot))) welcome back aboard the express... on halloween weekend, the goal is to always more treats.

Just ask comets' defenseman guillaume brisebois who recieved a big treat today.

Brisebois who was a restricted free agent this a-h-l offseason has now signed with the comets parent club to stick around.

Canucks general manager jim benning announced today that brisebois has signed a one year, two-way contract to remain with the organization.

According to capfriendly.com, brisebois will earn 700 thousand dollars if up with the canucks and 125 thousand if with the comets.

-- spencer the 23-year old, is a solid presence on the comets blue line being selected as utica's top defenseman the last two of his three seasons with the organization.

-- in 48 games with the comets last season, he scored a career- best four goals and tallied 15 points in 37 penalty minutes.

Speaking of off- season moves...it's now official mets fans athlete of the week.

In a year where she didn't even know if she'd be playing - this girls soccer star has been enjoying historic success.

Bumpback & athlete of the week stinger welcome back to sports express - this week's athlete of the week is an absolute force on opposition and are tasked with defending her...good luck.

She's having a season for the ages.

Throughout much of the spring and summer - rory richard of holland patent didn't even know if she'd have a senior season - now she's having a record-setting one... rory richard: it's very exciting because i really enjoy playing for this team and playing with these girls, they really bring a happiness to my life that i enjoy a lot.

Just being able to accomplish these goals and break these records with these girls, with this team is just unbelievable.

In a year that's been anything but normal - rory is thankful for the opportunity to play and trying to make the most of it.

Rory richard: i'm definitely taking advantage of any chance that i get because i don't know when my last game is exactly, like i know our last game could be when it's set to be but you never know with covid happening.

So every game i'm just going to go in and play it like it's my last and take every advantage that i can.

Earlier this month - richard scored six goals in a game - the most for any player in school history...not satisfied - the next time out - she put in seven.

After a goal against dolgeville tonight - she now has 43 in her career...another school record.

Through six games this fall - richard has 19 goals - only one away from the most in a single season for holland patent.

Rory richard: it's pretty cool because these girls that i broke their records, i looked up to them when i was a little girl.

I never imagined as a little girl that i would break their records and then now i'm here breaking them and i just hope that i am a mentor or i am someone that a younger girl is looking up to you and thinking wow she's so cool and she's so amazing i wanna be like her and i hope they break my records one day and they feel the pride and joy that i'm feeling right now according to her coach - being that role model is absolutely something she has become.

Rick carro: she is very driven, she's a very hard worker, she's hard out there all the time.

I don't know if it's because she's a senior this year or not but she has definitely taken over our leader ship type role and always has good input, never anything negative to say.

It's a good group of girls and it helps to have someone like that trying to head them up.

Coach carro said that one of rory's best assets is her ability to move without the ball to create space and opportunities.

As skilled as she may be - she credits her support system for getting her to where she is today.

Rory richard: one of the main reasons why i'm here today is because of my family.

They gave everything to me, they give up everything, they put their time and effort, my dad works two jobs to support my club that i had to go and train out in syracuse and my brother is my inspiration in life.

I look up to him, he means the world to me, he shows me what hard work and talent can do if it's put together.

Her brother hunter - a state champion wrester was a sports express athlete of the week back in 2017.

He now wrestles at cornell.

Now - his plaque will have some company in the richard household.

Rory richard: when i heard about this, it kind of brought a tear to my eye actually because it's like& i wanted to be just like him and now i am.

If you know of a high school athlete who deserves to be athlete of the week, here's our contact info - call, email, find us on social media!
