Section III Athletics updates 2020-21 sports season plans; winter sports to begin on Dec. 14

Section III has announced the schedule for the winter, fall II, and spring sports seasons for the 2020-21 academic year.

It also has postponed the winter indoor track and field season.

Looking ahead now - section three announced an update to its athletic plans for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

The section three athletic council approved the dates for the winter - fall two and spring sports seasons today.

The winter season in our area will now begin on december 14 and run through february 28.

That's a couple week's later than the state-wide start date of november 30.

The council voted to postpone the winter indoor track and field season.

It has not announced a potential alternative for the sport at this time.

The fall two season will run from march first to april 30 and there will be a small overlap with spring sports.

That is set to begin - as of now - on april 19 and run through june 30.

In addition - the section three executive committee has decided that no sectional tournaments will be held in either the winter or fall two seasons - much like in this current fall season - and that a decision regarding sectionals in spring sports is still to be announced.

As of now - high risk sports such as basketball - ice hockey - competitive cheer - winter volleyball and wrestling in the winter are allowed to practice - but not compete in matches or games according to the latest state guidance.

The section will await additional guidance to determine the exact date teams will begin game play.

The executive committee said it will continue to monitor additional guidance from state and local officials to assess necessary changes as we move forward.
