Two weeks ago, the fda approved the drug for use in our nation's hospitals to treat patients with covid 19.
But as newschannel two's brent kearney reports... the drug was already being used here.
For months mvhs has been using the drug internationally known as remdesidvir.
It was used on the president when he was diagnosed with covid, and now its also being used to treat patients here at mvhs.

None "we've actually had what we think is pretty good success with it and we've seen patients that were very sick and when they got the remdesivir they actually had good outcomes."
The drug is made by gilead sciences, and was approved for full use in hospitals by the fda on october 22nd.
And as covid cases continue to reach record highs across the country, these treatments are needed now more than ever.
"i will say that its really very important for the full spectrum of ability to take care of these patients.
Their is no single silver bullet.
The true silver bullet is going to be prevention through vaccination when we get that."
According to the latest county numbers 21 patients are currently in the hospital with covid.
Even though they are seeing positive results from the drug, their haven't been enough patients that need it to quantify an exact success rate.
