Local military share their appreciation after finding out that veterans were being honored through Tuesday's firework show put on by the City of Fort Wayne.

The show was postponed from the fourth of july and rescheduled to tonight... the eve of veterans' day.

The city planned to recognize local military with the schedule change.

Though some of his comrades didn't know they were being honored, army veteran marc tjaden says he was looking forward to the firework show the night before veterans' day.

I was ecstatic when i heard about it."

Parking lots filled up across downtown fort wayne so attendees could have a good view of the show from the indiana michigan power building.

City of fort wayne spokesman john perlich says postponing the show back in july because of covid 19 challenges didn't mean it was cancelled.

John perlich//city spokesman "we made a commitment to the community to do our best that we had a show this year."

Air force veteran don brecht says he's honored by the city's recognition of local military.

Don brecht//air force veteran "it's a very important holiday to me with my comrades and to remember the ones we lost through the wars that we've had."

But brecht says the reality of veterans' day is different for those who have served and experienced war.

After serving for forty years, tjaden says the community can make it through pandemic.

Just maintain safety and support each other.

"just keep calm and like i said, we'll get through it.

We are all in this together."

Mallory beard//mbeard@wfft.comnow if you're celebrate veterans' day tomorrow, there will be a groundbreaking event for the vietnam wall at the veterans national shrine and museum tomorrow at 10-am.

Organizers say get there by 9-30.and then a gathering at memorial park all veterans at 11.
