Several local athletes signed with colleges on Wednesday
College signings
Today marked the start of the fall national letter of intent signing period....high school athletes over the next seven days can sign with colleges... the wabash valley once again showed how much talent we have here, with numerous kids making their college choices official... < at the gauer house in terre haute.....matt gauer signed to play college baseball at indiana state... the terre haute north senior is a hard throwing right hand pitcher who used a big summer with the indiana prospects to get the attention of the sycamores.... thankful to have the oppurtunity since baseball last year got canceled.
Summer ball this year really helped me and hopefully we still have a baseball season this year.
Terre haute south senior canaan sellers signed with iupui tennis...sellers is the first boys braves d1 tennis player since 1980....he earned all-state three times and was recenlty named to the indiana senior boys tennis all-star team....sellers is one of the top high school players in the state and now he's eager to see how he'll stake up at the college level... it'll be a super fun experience.
I can't wait to just become that animal of a hard worker that comes with it because you know all of them are superstars.
Cael light will be continuing his cross country and track career at indiana state....the terre haute south senior qualified three times for state in cross country...he currently has the ninth all-time best time in cross country at south..
I'm really excited.
I've worked really hard for this, put in the work since freshman year.
I trusted my coaching and now it's paid off.
Northview senior laurent sackett signed with indiana state softball....the lady sycamores are getting one of the top high school pitchers in the state.... at vincennes lincoln, maycee lange made it official signing to play college hoops at the university of evansville...last season she was named a junior indiana all-star, lange has also earned all-state twice..the lady aces are getting a special player... i'm really happy.
As you can tell i'm really nervous, i'm shaking, but i'm extremely happy.
I'm proud of myself and i've always wanted to play basketball in college for so long and just getting to be able to sign today really made me happy.
What an evening it was at linton...they had four miners sign to play college athletics... first up was lincoln hale.....he's starred for the miners since his freshman year and he's officially a sycamore now...indiana state basketball is getting an athletic, shooter that can score in a lot of different ways...hale averaged over 23 a game last year to earn a junior all-star selection.
Lincoln says he's very proud to achieve this goal!
Next up was josh pyne....the linton star signed with iu baseball....pyne actually committed to the hosoiers his freshman year before he even played a game in high school.
The miner is ranked the second best shorstop in the state in the 2021 class and the sixth best player overall...pyne knows his rankings don't mean anything once he arrives in bloomington and he's ready to prove himself at the college level... vanessa shafford signed to play college hoops at the university of southern indiana....the screaming eagles are getting a thousand point scorer who this past season led linton to the 2a state title.....shafford's goal has always been to play collegiately and she can't believe it's really going to happen..
Shafford's teammate aubrey burgess will be joining her at usi.....burgess was also a key part of the lady miners state title run last year....she was a thousand point scorer who runs the show for linton at the point guard position.....burgess loves a challenge and she can't wait to see how her game develops at the next level... >
