New at 5 -- action news now reporter carmela karcher shows us the plan to stop the spread.
Carmela karcher: "antelope elementary school district had planned to reopen on monday, but as you can see, no students are around me.
That's because the district will remain on distance learning for the rest of the week."
On november 8th&the antelope elementary school district put out a statement saying they will transition to distance learning for the start of the week due to the potential exposure of students and staff to covid-19.
As of thursday& they are still not open.
I asked the superintendent about why the district is still closed.
Jim weber/antelope elementary superintendent: " the antelope elementary school district over the past two weeks&we saw an increase in positivity.
We hadn't had much over the first 40 or 50 days we have been open since august 19th.
And so, through the contact tracing, we have determined that our impact was such we had to close the three sites to get an idea of any other potential impact."
But with the increase of positivity within the district& weber is confident in their ability to bounce back.
Jim weber: "we've had a very successful first few months of being open throughout the district so we feel we have pretty good procedures and policies in place to keep our students and our staff safe.
We do hope to open after we've received a little bit more information throughout this week.
So far, the information has been good."
Jim weber: "our local public health has indicated over and over again that we are really not seeing transmission at the school sites.
We are seeing transmission from social gatherings and community events and that schools have much more success of keeping students safe.
So in general i would say that we feel confident that the schools are safe.
We just don't want to those students that might be at risk or risks of spread and have that happen on our campus."
Carmela karcher: "the superintendent told me that he hopes to have schools back open on monday.
In red bluff, carmela karcher, action news now, coverage you can count on."
