Gavin newsom says he and the governors of oregon and washington have issued travel advisories... they're urging people entering their states or returning from travel to other states... to self- quarantine.
They're hoping to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The advisories urge against non-essential out-of-state travel..
And ask you to self- quarantine for 14 days if you arrive from another state or country.
### action news now reporter dani masten was in chico earlier and shows us what people are saying about this impacting their travel plans.
Josh towers/lives in chico "i would not quarantine.
I don't believe in it."
Sukui knight/lives in chico "i think it is just a way to keep everyone safe and everyone should participate in it."
Carli pickard/lives in chico "it makes sense i guess.
I kind of don't like it but i guess we can't do anything about it."
Thursdayã california became the second us state to top one million coronavirus cases and we're seeing a spike across the country.
Some people traveling for the holidays understand why this is a necessary step in order to slow the spread.
Sukui knight/lives in chico "to care about the people who are suffering from it and for the people who are trying not to get it."
Others just want a sense of normalcy... carli pickard/lives in chico "i understand what they are saying but at the same time when are we going to start choosing quality of life over fear you know what i mean.
It is really hard for people right now mentally.
You need to take care of your mental state and we are just not doing that."
I reached out to shasta county public health's kerri schuette to see if they think this will help slow the spread.
Kerri schuette/pio for shasta county health and human services "introducing more disease into our community by either traveling to other places or visiting with other people from other households or inviting other people into our county is going to make the problem worse."
