Madison County coroner identifies man shot and killed in standoff with Huntsville police
We begin with a breaking new update on a story we first brought you on waay 31 news this morning.
In the last half hour, the madison county coroner has identified the man killed in a standoff with huntsville police.
He is 41 year old bradley pugh.
Tonight -- police are investigating what lead up to that deadly encounter.
Police negotiators talked to pugh as he stood on top of a restaurant in five points waving a gun around.
You can see police arriving to the call in this video sent to us by a waay 31 viewer.
This all happened at the ted's barbeque in five points.
And ended on de-ment street -- where police say the man pointed a gun at them -- forcing them to shoot.
Thank you for joining us.
I'm dan shaffer.
And i'm najahe sherman.
We want to go straight to waay 31's sydney martin.
She is live in five points... and spoke to neighbors who witnessed the stand-off..
.
Sydney what did they tell you?
Dan najahe- the incident ended here on dement street...hours after police found the man standing on top of the ted's barbeque across the way here..the area is back open - after being shut down for nearly 12 hours for the investigation.
Right now, police aren't releasing how or why pugh was on the roof of ted's bbq- you can see him in this video.... neighbors told me they heard an officer talking with him asking him to drop the weapon but he refused.
Take a listen..
Sandra rhodes "we heard the policeman ask for him to drop his weapon.
He did not say gun.
He said drop your weapon.
You need to drop your weapon.
And he didn't."
Butt with "they were trying to talk him down and ask him what the problem was and he was just unleashing profanities.
Just f this constantly."
Tonight, police say pugh did finally come down on a ladder but soon took off running from them before turning around and pointing a weapon officers.
It's unclear how many officers shot at him.
This afternooon we are working to learn how many officers are on paid leave or adminstrative duties which is standard protocol in these types of investigations.
Coming up at 6 o'clock tonight- i have more from that woman you just heard from whose own bedroom became part of the crime scene after bullets ripped through her home early this morning while she and her husband were sleeping.
