A college semester like no other for students at missouri western this fall, and as the first full semester since the pandemic began comes to a close university staff are sharing a progress report on how it's dealt with covid-19 kq2's ron johnosn spoke to members of the university's covid-19 response team and he joins us now live with how the university's doing, ron?
Alan, just three short months ago students began their first semester here on campus since the pandemic began and they along with university staff did not know what to expect.
Now, the university says many of the protocols and plans they've put in place are working, really well.
We talked to a member of the university's covid-19 responce team a group dedicated to tracking covid-19's impact on the college.
They told us today that of the roughly 5,000 kids who attended clases this semester only about 50 tested positive for the virus at its peak.
Staff credit the low number of cases to the university's complience when it comes to wearing masks and social distancing.
(sot ) "i just can't say enough about the cooperation and the dedication that our students and out faculty and our staff have shown in adapting to this world that we're in.
They have done just a tremendous job doing what we've asked them to do to try and help prevent the spread of this disease."
Of course there are still concerns for the university, not the least of which is the rising number of hospitalizations at nearby mosaic life care.
The last day of regular class for students is tomorrow, final exams start friday and run to next tuesday.
