Future Of Sports Still Uncertain

Despite some parents protest, a Lauderdale County Board of Education meeting on Wednesday evening came and went with no answers about whether students will get to play sports the next two weeks.

A lauderdale county board of education meeting just ended with no answers about whether students will get to play sports the next two weeks.

Many parents and students were at the meeting telling board members how they feel about the situation.

Waay31's breken terry is outside where the meeting was held.

Breken how many came out to voice their concerns?

This parking lot is empty now but earlier it was so packed people had to wait outside for their turn to address the board of education.

Many parents and students told me as they were coming out they didn't have clear answers and are still disappointed the board won't let them play the next two weeks because of rising coronavirus cases.

Bowling- they're heartbroken.

These boys went to birmingham last year and competed in the final four.

Courtney bowling's son is a senior on the brooks high school basketball team.

He's why she's here with her sign saying let them play.

Bowling- every game matters when you're trying to repeat what you did last year and go even further.

Camryn williams is a teammate of bowlings' son he said they didn't find out they couldn't play until right before practice tuesday.

Williams- this means a lot to us.

This is more than basketball to us this is our life and we want to be able to do it the right way.

It wasn't just brooks high school players and parents at wednesday's board of education meeting students and parents from each high school packed this hallway for their chance to tell the board how they feel.

For bowling, she said why not let the kids play with no fans and allow them to live stream the game outside?

Bowling- you gotta think about the physical activity that they get every day at practice and just what that does for their mental health as well so it really takes away a lot more than just a record or four games.

Between november 8th and 14th the school system had 600 students and staff in quarantine and about 60 active coronavirus cases.

That's what lead the board to make this decision.

The board did not vote on reversing it's decision tonight but said will take the comments into consideration.
