Lexington's covid-19 victims were remembered during a memorial earlier today.

Abc 36's monica harkins has a look at the remembrance.

L3: abc 36 news white candle memorial honors covid-19 deaths downtown lexington ### monica:" each candle at the pam miller downtown arts center window display represents one life lost to covid-19 in fayette county.

As of friday's 109 candles sit in the display, remembering 109 lives."

One light, one life lost to covid-19..

"pastor: families have experienced trauma and tragedy."

A tragedy recognized friday as faith leaders gathered with mayor linda gorton to offer words of healing and hope...praying over the covid-19 candle remeberance.

"eloris young it's something people gotta realize this is no joke...it can take you in a minute you know."

One of those lives lost is charolette daniels...eloris young's sister.

Young says the day after they buried daniels...a half- sister of young's died, too.

"to my sisters i miss you and i love you and i wish you was here but god knows best.

Young also tested positive for covid-19 ...now as a survivor...young says she hopes the lights stand as a reminder of life and the seriousness of the virus.

"just mask up please."

Unfortunately the memorial will continue to grow...likely until there's a covid-19 vaccine....and celeste lewis is one of the people who will have to add to the display.

"it's very sad it really gave me a little stomach flip that we would be adding candles frequently."

And, like the outside of the center says..lewis hopes this..."art helps heal us."

Monica: "while the inside of the pam miller downtown arts center is closed to visitors right now.

You can come pay your respects to the window display at any time....the candles will be lit up every night from five to midnight each night.
