Schweizer Orchards staff say the Covid-19 pandemic will likely lead to more people buying the holiday staple as many stay home and avoid crowds this year.

Well we have a question for you, have you got your christmas decorations up yet?

If so, you're likely not alone.

Covid-19 is keeping many of us inside our own home this year and many are making the best of it by getting into the christmas spirit early.

We stopped by schweizer orchards today to see how the pandemic is affecting christmas tree sales this year.

<<ron johnson reporting it's already been a year like no other, and staff at schweizer orchards are getting ready for a christmas tree shopping season that seems just as unpredictableyeah we're anticipating everybody you know not doing the traveling that they've been doing, maybe spend that extra money.

Get a fresh tree and then dress it up as best they can try to do a little bit bigger christmas at home instead of traveling abroad and things like that.

With so many people likely staying home for the holidays, staff are expecting a rush of sales for real christmas trees this year, in fact some customers are already showing up.

It's been good, it's been really good.

I hope everybody's taking advantage if they are a little bit worried they can come out when the crowds aren't so big.

Though the virus is likely having an effect on when people shop as they try to avoid the crowds, what they're not avoiding is tradition i always get one for my living room so i thought i'd look at those and see what i can find, this is a good time to do it.

I'm excited to look at each one of them and see which one looks like it fits me best.

But in addition to those who are experts in decking the halls schweizer staff say there'll likely be some new to buying and caring for a real christmas tree this year.

They share some tips for first time buyerssome of the things people should know is when they get a tree even if they get one that's cut already or if they cut their own, get it home and before they put it in that water they make a fresh cut at least an inch off the bottom of that tree and immediately get it into water and then never let that water go below the base of that tree because it'll sap back over again and it won't be able to pull the water into the tree.

However people decide to celebrate the holidays this year, staff want to make sure they do so safely and in a way that keeps the christmas spirit alive.

Take advantage of a fresh tree, get out here and enjoy yourself outdoors when the weather's nice, try to beat the crowds or go during the week when there aren't so many people out and you'll have a great christmas.

Schweizer orchards staff say you might find your tree is extra thirsty this year, they say that's due to a drier than normal fall season.

They caution you to keep an eye on your tree's water levles to keep it from drying out.

Still ahead tonight -- we are
