Some school districts are switching gears with plans for the rest of the semester -- meaning more back and forth when it comes to school sports.

Action news now reporter amy lanski shows us what changes student athletes can expect.

Amy: "i spoke to the athletic director here at chico high school and he said right now sports for them is just on hold."

Jason alvistur "we have not receieved any specific word from the cif or the state department of public health on what to do next."

Athletic director jason alvistur says they are going by the guidelines that were put out in august for youth sports.

"we are trying to follow those right now, we have six teams on campus right now doing conditioning and development.

We all have schedules on paper and are hoping to play, but right now that's just word on paper."

Amy: "one of the other things alvisur talked about what how much the kids are enjoying playing."

Jason: "kids need to play, i am telling you the kids are so excited to be back.

The football players the volleyball players there is a joy to get into a gym or on the field and workout an be with each other.

They have been really good about following the rules they are so excited to be together.

I know we are in a pandemic and i know it is crazy but if there is a way for these kids to play i think it is so important."

Amy: "volleyball is still set to start late december and football paradise high school has also had to make changes for their athletics too.

Action news now spoke to athletic director and volleyball coach anne stearns who says some are still getting to practice.

" football is going and soccer so any outside sports is still going.

If a sport can keep a six foot distance and you can still be wearing masks outside you can do conditioning outside."

Stearns says they have a northern section c-i-f meeting in the beginning of december.

She says they will be talking about the start dates for their athletic programs. so right now it is up in the air for them as well...
