New ruling for federal executions
New ruling for federal executions
Still under investigation.
A new ruling would allow the justice department to use more methods when it comes to conducting federal executions.
At 5 we told you these new methods could be used in the next executions set.
Now..we hear more from sister barbara battista who served as a spiritual advisor.
News 10's richard solomon joins us with more.
Rondrell... sister barbara battista with the sisters of providence says the new methods are nothing but inhumane.
She told me this isn't doing anything but promoting more violence.
The new methods include a firing squad...poision gas...and the electric chair.
Sister battista says with something that was already violent, this is not promoting democracy.
"it does nothing to protect the citizens of this country.
It does nothing to make us safer.
It's inhumane no matter how you look at it" the new rule goes into effect december 24th of this year.
The justice department has 5 executions scheduled during that time period.
That's just 3 days before president elect joe biden takes office.
"if people of this country really knew that tax payer money is spent at a higher rate it cost more to execute a person, i don't think people would support the death penality if they truly learned that lesson" sister battista says she and others will make sure the voices of the unheard are listened to.
"the death penality is a front to human diginity.
It's a life issue.
It's an issue that we all should be energized to end."
Sister battista says there will be multiple meetings in december leading up to the next execution.
The next execution is scheduled to happen on decmber 10th.
