City council tables proposal to ban smoking on gaming floor of St.

This afternoon, the council pulled from their agenda a proposal that would have banned smoking while gambling.

It would have made the st.

Joseph casino the only gaming facility in the state where smoking would be banned on the gaming floor.

The meeting today was held virtually -- a decision made this afternoon because of rising covid-19 cases.

And that was the reason the bill's sponsor, councilman p-j kovac asked it be pulled.

He says that people should have the opportunity to state their case, either for or against the measure, in person.

I think it's a pretty important issue and a lot of people would like to discuss it.

) kovac is pushing for the smoking ban because of the city's current mandatory mask mandate, which is in effect until next february 14th..

People in the casino do not need to be masked when they are smoking, and kovac says smokers blowing their smoke freely into the air makes it much easier to spread covid 19.
