Florida Becomes 3rd State to Surpass 1 Million Confirmed COVID-19 Cases.

On Dec.

1, Florida reported an estimated 8,800 new cases of coronavirus.

The new cases pushed the state over the 1 million mark.

.

Florida also has the fourth-highest total of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S., with more than 18,600 reported.

.

Texas and California topped one million cases last week, with both states now reporting over 1.2 million confirmed cases.

.

Florida’s grave COVID-19 milestone is particularly notable given Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ stance on the virus.

.

He announced earlier this week that schools would remain open and continue in-person instruction despite rising COVID-19 numbers in the state.

He also confirmed to WPTV that he is still against a statewide mask mandate.

.

I’m opposed to mandates period.

I don’t think they work … People in Florida wear (masks) when they go out.

They don’t have to be strung up by a bayonet to do it, Ron DeSantis, via WPTV.

DeSantis also spoke about ending travel restrictions, saying they were no longer beneficial.

Let's get travel from Brazil back.

Let's get travel from the European countries back … To have these types of travel restrictions is not getting you any benefit, and I think it's causing a lot of people a lot of harm, Ron DeSantis, via WPTV
