Governor pushes immunity bill
Mike parson has asked the legislature to hold off until next session on a bill that protects corporations from covid-19 related lawsuits.
The issue pits businesses against frontline and essential workers.the missouri chamber of commerce as well as the missouri hospital association have been calling for liability protection since early in the pandemic.saying it was necessary to protect businesses from frivolous lawsuits.
But the bill has been heavily criticized by unions and essential workers who say legislation like this doesn't protect well- intentioned companies -- it protects bad actors.
(lenny jones, healthcare union (seiu) state director: we have several cases of workers who have been sickened or in one case even died that we know of in the st.
Louis area where they were not feeling well.
They notified their employer yet they were told they still had to come in to work otherwise they would lose their job/for an employer to do that, that risks the health and livelihood of a worker, there has to be consequences.") the bill has also been criticized by consumer protection groups saying it shields manufacturers and companies at a time when no one is watching their actions.
