Hospital officials worry about rising coronavirus numbers.

State health officer dr. thomas dobbs is warning mississippians to avoid all social gatherings following a record one-day rise in coronavirus numbers.

Lets go live to wayne hereford in starkville where administrators and nurses say they are concerned about the rising numbers.

I am outside the oktibbeha county hospital where administrators are keeping a close eye on the coronavirus numbers.

Dr. thomas dobbs wants everyone to stay safe by avoiding social events and gatherings .

That will help keep a huge influx of coronavirus patients out of hospitals like o.c.h.

Take pkg "today we have issued public health guidance urging every mississippi resident that they shoud avoid every social gathering."

That's state health officer dr. thomas dobbs issuing a warning to mississippians for the second day in a row.

He is urging resident to only take part in work, school, and other essential activities.

"we recommend that mississippians protect themselves and their families by avoiding public or social gatherings such as the following, all social events or parties, family gatherings outside of the household or nuclear family, weddings, funerals other than close family and then preferably outdoors , all sporting events and in person church services."

This comes as mississippi coronavirus numbers showed a new one day high in cases.

Dobbs says that the steady increase is making it tough for hospitals across the state too.

"if we look at how many hospitals do not have i.c.u.

Beds ,we currently have thirteen major medical centers with zero icu beds and we have twenty other hospitals with ten percent or less."

Again, administrators here at och say they don't have a large number coronavirus patients in their icu right now.

At six, i talk to a nurse and administrator about what its been like to fight on the front lines of a pandemic every day now since march.
