Picente makes recommendations to control COVID spread

Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente is encouraging people to get tested, and stay away from others if showing COVID symptoms.

Is the number of positive cases in oneida county...in just the last two weeks.

Staggering when you think there have been just over 63-hundred cases total since march.

The county executive says our collective actions as a community are the single most effective way to mitigate the spread of covid 19.

Today he listed several recommendations on how to slow the spread without closing down... first he wants to see schools keep kids k-8th grade in a hybrid schedule at least, no matter what......continue to enforce social distancing guidelines and mask wearing...and...canc el all extracurricular activities.

Second: going forward, oneida county will be releasing the names of businesses, organizations and residents who are cited for violating public health guidelines.

Third: all governments, non- profits and organizations should cease all in person public meetings immediately.

Fourth: make sure the county continues to ensure our hospital systems have proper p-p-e...and proper support.

Finally....the county executive is creating a vaccine workgroup that will focus on the education and distribution of a vaccine throughout our community...when its ready.

He says their is no silver bullet to stop this...but it "is"...up to us.

"people need to be smart people, need to wear a mask, people need to adhere to the numbers people need to not gather in crowds of whichhdon't, contact with being at work is that risky enough for everybody and the same applies to us here at the county wearing a mask staying socially distant spreading out the workplace and then adhering to that outside of here is most important."

Picente also recommended businesses test their workers regularly and work remote if possible.

And for residents...stay at home when possible...and don't leave home when you are sick.

Experts say congregating outside of your immediate circle continues to be the number one way the coronavirus is spread.

We'll have more from the county exective's briefing tonight at six.
