At 5--- one week into the new month-- and covid-19 cases are rising at a rapid rate.

In the hoosier state---more than 5-thousand new positive cases reported tonight.

And here locally -- cases are piling up.

44news reporter megan diventi live in vanderburgh county tonight-- with the latest efforts from the health department.

Jessica--here in vanderburgh county---there are 179 new reported cases---this along with one new death.... and health officials--are*still pleading with the public to do their part.... across all our indiana tri-state communities--- health officials reporting more than 4-hundred new positive covid-19 cases this monday....along with 6 total deaths---4 of which are out of gibson county.... earlier today---i caught up vanderburgh county health officials---who say the number of cases are still fluctuating each day--- many recent days--- exceeding more than 2-hundred cases here in the county.... i'm told---the health department is still receiving complaints about local businesses--not following state guidelines----but the health department is working with two state agencies--the state fire marshals office and department of homeland security--when it comes to addressing business owners.

"and we're not doing anything undercover if we do get complaints or if we do hear of things that maybe people aren't following the rules.

We go out, we're talking to the owners, talking to management, working with them, making sure they understand what the guidelines are in the governors order, working with them to see if they need any resources."

We're told there is still plenty of testing happening here---with anywhere from 15-hundred---to 24-hundred test a day.... as we get into the holiday season--health officials continue to urge everyone to maintain social distancing---not to have large gatherings--- and wear a mask.
