When the department of natural resources got involved, it wanted deer movement to be addressed.
Dnr actyually had some data that showed where deer was moving in spring/ summer foraging grounds a=over winter grounds, and there was north/south movement in that area.
Smith says allowing water to flow beneath the roadway was secondary.
This tunnel really was built to accomodate deer.
Smith believes giving deer safe passage will address both public safety and wildlife conservation.
