The Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois has lost nine residents due to COVID-19.

The state of indiana is seeing an increase in deaths in patients over "age 80."

Health officials say these cases are typically in long-term care facilities.

1-thousand 5-hundred-80 "new" resident cases were reported state-wide through december 2-nd.

The total is now more than 16-thousand cases.

253 more residents have been confirmed to have died from covid-19 since last week's update.

In total..there have been more than 32-hundred long-term care facility deaths.

And in illinois..

Newton care center in newton, illinois is seeing its "second" covid-19 outbreak of the year.

Workers there say this time it's much more manageable.

News 10's porsha williams explains how the nursing home is doing now.

Newton care center has lost 9 residents due to the coronavirus.

49 total residents and 35 employees have tested positive.

But as of right now....only one person is still in recovery.

The center tests staff and residents twice a week.

And quarantine in-coming patients.

I've spoke with the administrator of the nursing home... paula schoon-over.

She told me the support from the community has been over-whelming.

Locals in jasper county tagged them as newton strong.

For thanksgiving schoon-over says they made sure residents had a good meal to eat..

And shared plenty of holiday cheer in the home.

For christmas they plan to do the same thing..

Especially for those in isolation.

"staff will be there for them we'll continue to have those celebrations in the room one on one and we're still putting up holiday decorations christmas trees in the rooms, poinsettas around the facility.

The community is still sharing gifts food, and those things haven't changed."

In april they were one of the first nursing home facilities to see an outbreak.

Schoon-over tells me that now they are better prepared to tackle anything that comes their way.
