They prepare six hundred meals to deliver to seniors- on today menu broccoli and hash browns.
Seventeen drivers drop off food to senior citizens throughout six counties traveling as far as griffin and cannelton meals are delivered to homes and apartment complexes were the most vulnerable seniors need help stocking their fridges.
And while many organizations have had to scale back their efforts this year due to financial strains - swirca has actually stepped up their efforts two shelf stable meals to each senior over the summer -- and they have plans to provide an extra fourteen more to each senior as covid-19 cases continue to rise and the temperatures drop and on friday -- a drive thu christmas meal distribution for seniors will take place in the swirca parking lot from elven am to twelve pm.
With each meal costing five dollars.
But for seniors who can get out wheels is a true blessing.
"this pandemic has really shook up everybody in the world you know -- so but i am thankful for the food.
And it's always tasteful too."
And while the meals on wheels program is still thriving in evansville over in calhoun kentucky, a wednesday fire that destroyed their senior services center where the means on wheels program is based out of - but they are preserving and moving operations over to liver more city hall.
