Oregon readies for vaccine, expects resistance

At a news conference today, Gov.

Brown said only four in 10 Oregonians said they will positively get the virus when it becomes available to them.

Starts now.

We have team coverage tonight starting with kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome who joins us live to explain while even with a vaccine landing in oregon next week - thats not going to come right away matt, jillian; governor brown said today she hopes to have 100,000 high risk oregonians vaccinated by the end of the month.

Or at least they'll get the first dose of the vaccine.

And with 147 thousand doses on the way.... there should be plenty for the first round.

But looking into next year... she and other experts say they're worried that not enough people will get the shot.

In fact... a recent survey revealed that only 4 in 10 oregonians say they would definitely get the jab.

In a perfect world how many people do we need vaccinated for community immunity?

Our states epidemiologist breaks it down what we think based on how it's spread and how it's behaved so far is that we'll need to have 70 percent of the population vaccinated to achieve this community immunity where we'll be able to back down on additional measures" however he said we are not going to wait until 70 percent of people are vaccinated to begin lifting restrictions that comes with cases, hospitalizations, and deaths dropping --- something we can all help with we've heard health care workers, those nurses in congregate care facilities and the residents in those facilities come first for the vaccine.

Essential workers come after this.

When asked who is considered an essential worker, the governor said that has not yet been decided -- reporting live in eugene emma jerome
