Lions Club Fruit Sale returns despite pandemic

Lions Club members have made some changes to the annual fruit sale.

Regular customers say they're happy the tradition is continuing.

Have grown accustomed to high-quality fruit given out by lions club members over the years -- and it was important for club members to continue their traditional sale this year... kq2's ron johnson shows us what's changed at this year's fruit sale, and -- perhaps more importantly -- what hasn't: <<ron johnson reporting.

Whether it's boxes, or baskets local members of the st.

Joseph lions club say every year people just can't get enough fruit.

We have wonderful fruit, we have oranges we have apples, we have grapefruit.

Year after year around this time, the lions club hosts a fruit sale, it's a tradition that goes back decades.

This has been an annual fruit sale for many many years.

In that time the club's gathered a huge following, as seen this year by the amount of cars lined up.

Gaging from today, it's going to be a very busy next two or three days.

The sale taking on a bit of a different look this year thanks to covid- 19, of course with the covid, we attempted to streamline it a little bit to where we keep people in the cars take their orders and fill their cars and they can drive away.

While the pandemic may have changed the way lions club runs the sale, it hasn't changed who's showing up all that much.

They say in a year with so many things put on hold or cancelled, people are finding solace in tradition it's the high quality fruit, it's the getting out and getting the special orange to put in the stocking for the grandkids, it's all of those things that are always tied back to tradition.

Club members and their customers say they wouldn't have it any other way we just served one lady she just said this is just a bit of the normalcy that we need to have come back into our lives.

I think that perfectly illustrates what it is.

The fruit sale began today, and runs through next wednesday the 16th every day from noon to 6.
