As hospitalization and COVID cases continue to rise across the area, Governor Cuomo is urging hospitals across the state to work together to keep hospital capacity at a manageable level.

In his press briefing on Monday, Governor Cuomo asked hospitals to form or review partnerships with hospitals in their area regarding patient transfers.

Governor cuomo saying the number of hospitalizations in march in parts of the state overwhelmed the doctors and nurses he says the state is doing its best to not get to that point.

Newshchannel2's brent kearney joins us now with details on what the governor wants hospitals statewide to do.

Well kristen the governor wants the different hospital systems to work toge or review their existing agreements with other hospital systems regarding potential patients transfers.

In his briefing, the governor stating back in march independent hospitals across the state were overwhelmed because some of them had no other place to send patients... whether that was covid patients or people with other medical issues.

Here locally, we have mvhs which has a set of hospitals in oneida county, rome memorial which is in rome, and in herkimer and otsego county, you have the basset health care system which has its set of hospitals.

Even though, those hospitals are in different areas and run by different organizations, the governor is saying health systems statewide should form or review their partnerships just in case their hospitals are overwhelmed with patients in the future.

"form a partnership now with another hospital where if i see i'm getting overwhelmed, i'mm going to decant patients to you.

That has to be done now.

And then systems have to work with each other.

Mvhs says they're management has been in constant contact with the management of other hospitals across our area in case transferring patients becomes necessary.

Right now 167 patients are hospitalized with covid across oneida, herkimer and otseog countys.
