More than four dozen salt crews are sweeping through southern Indiana State roadways with salt and brine to ensure drivers are safe during their commute.

Remain up in the air --- one thing is certain.

Tri-state drivers can rest easy ---- as in-dot works overtime to bring safer streets to the area.

44news spoke with the department earlier today -- about what will be one of their first snow events of the season.

Reporter tyler druin has a closer look at what's being done to make sure the roadways are safe.

The indiana department of transportation has already started laying down salt and brine in our area... this is the first winter event for the tri- state - road crews taking extra precautions as the rain and snow moves in overnight... state road crews in indiana are responsible for u.s. 41 - the lloyd expressway - interstates 69 and 64.

And of- course all state roads.... salt not an issues this year - plow crews - 80% of the tri- states salt is left over from last years mild winter... more than four dozen salt and brine trucks are out right now - preparing roadways ahead of the weather... ?
