C1 3 the pandemic..

But local organizations are still making it happen.

The hazard state police post's annual 'shop with a trooper event' has adapted..

To shopping without the children this year.

Instead---the troopers are doing all the shopping..

Then... delivering them to the kids' schools or homes..

They'll be at the walmart in whitesburg today!

A secret santa, has hit the walmart in hazard.

According to the store..

Last week... an anonymous donor..

Paid off the entire layaway balance..

Through its "pay away, the layaway program."

The total?

21- thousand dollars..

Walmart says..

Layaways for 96 different families were paid off thanks to the stranger's generosity..

Speaking of kind gestures... 75 children in lexington received an early christmas surprise from santa this weekend.

The foster care council shared a message on social media sunday, saying in part, "the 2020 version of our christmas spectacular is underway!!

Santa has made his list and is checking it twice!!"

The council shared several pictures of children opening presents which included plenty of toys, cold weather clothing and educational games.

The council's goal is to make sure all children get the chance to open presents on christmas.

If you looked up at the sky last night, you may have seen something unusual..

The two largest planets in our solar system were closer than they have been since the middle ages.

What you are looking at here is called "the christmas star."

Bu it is not one star.

They are two planets-- jupiter and saturn.

They appeared closely aligned in the night sky.

So close that astronomers say people could think they are seeing a double planet.

The bright sight has been nicknamed the christmas star for the time of year it falls on.

It is a rare occurrence... only happening every 20 years or so.

This year was particularly rare because the planets were the closest they've been since the year 12-26.

By the way... if you missed out monday ... you're in luck.

It should be visible -- to some extent -- each night until christmas.

Look for it in the low, southwestern sky for an hour after sunset.

Let's get a final check of weather....... meteorologist jason lindsey has the details... c1 3 well that's gonna do it for us here on good day kentucky..
