Farmers' agitation: 'President has moral role in guiding govt,' says Shashi Tharoor

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi along with other party leaders will meet President Ram Nath Kovind today to submit a memorandum containing 2 crore signatures seeking his intervention in farmers' agitation.

Party leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor said that the President has an "important and moral role" in encouraging and guiding the government to not stand on their legislative pride.

Tharoor further said that no one wants the farmers to suffer in cold Delhi winters but at the same time no one wants to see this kind of paralysis.

While speaking to ANI, Tharoor said, "We will march to Rashtrapati Bhavan and we warned the government to atone for their complete lack of consultation with the farmers before passing these bills by making a serious effort to address the concerns of the farmers.

I think the President has a very important moral role in encouraging and guiding the government to not stand on their legislative pride.

No one wants to see the farmers suffering in the cold Delhi winter and at the same time no one wants to see this kind of paralysis.

They want to see some progress."
