State updates COVID-19 numbers

"the indiana department of health" released new covid-19 numbers.

Right now... "parke county" is the only local county in the red.

Vigo county remains in the orange.

"the county health department" says our community positivity rates are decreasing.

However.... they're still high, overall.

That's after 500 new cases... last week... from community spread.

In indiana... "the state health department" is making adjustments.

That's to how it calculates the "positivity rate" for the virus.

State health commissioner... "doctor kristina box"... says they saw an error in how they're measured.

The state used to add each day's positivity rate... for seven days.

They'd also divide it... by seven... to get the result.

However... officials realized a high variability... in the amount of tests... done each day.

Fewer people are tested on weekends... and more likely testing positive.

Officials say "that's" causing high positivity rates for saturdays and sundays... now we will add all of the positive tests for the week and divide by the total tests done that week to determine the week's positivity rate.

The change affects positive rates for the state... and individual
