I'm standing at the silverlake firefighter memorial.

This wreath is just one way firefighters are paying their respects.

On christmas eve 1953 rochester firefighters were dispatched to silver lake for a water rescue.

Firefighters ambrose riley and stanley o'brien were first on the scene.

Both men immediately began rescue efforts using a ladder and pike pole... soon finding themselves in the icy water.

Ff2:"two rochester firefighters lost their lives attempting to save a 9 year old boy that had fallen into silver lake.

Riley, o'brien and 9 year old john paul stephenson all lost their lives on that fateful christmas eve.

The event is cemented forever in the departments history... each year firefighters paying tribute to their long lost brothers.
