Social distancing but not eating alone
Austin Community Meal
At five.
I'm george mallet./// we begin on this christmas night with the story of one family that has made it their mission to bring the austin community together .
This year is different, as community gatherings are not recommended.
Kimt news three's mary peters spoke with the family about their evolving christmas and joins us live.
Mary?
George ?
"* yes, this year the family did not want the community to pick up food and eat the meal alone... just like i am right now.
Danielle morem says this all began about twenty years ago.
Her uncle passed suddenly in a dirt bike accident and the family did not want to spend christmas alone.
They decided to host a community christmas dinner at saint olaf church in austin.
As you can see from past years, it's very popular in the community.
Morem tells me the last few years, they have served over four it ends up being really sad because we've spend christmas with pretty much the same people the last twenty years.
And some people have passed and some people continue to come and they bring their families.
It's a fairly selfish reason to continue the dinner in that it's such a happy time for us.
Morem tells me they have donated some money to the salvation army for their to?
"* go dinner this year.
Live in rochester, mary peters, kimt news 3 thanks, mary.
The morems say they will be back next year and cannot wait to spend christmas with the community once again.
