As the state is entering its first phase of COVID vaccinations with the highest risk individuals first, the Muscle Shoals School District is making its own plans for when that vaccine eventually reaches them.
But so far state-wide plans haven't been finalized.
Waay31's breken terry is at muscle shoals high school after speaking with the distircts superintendent about its vaccination plans, breken?
Superintendent chad holden told me their head nurse has been in constant contact with the state health department to try and find out when teachers will get vaccinated.
Right now, there isn't a set date or plan on when this will happen.
Holden said he'd like to at least have all of the school nurses vaccinated at the same time as other healthcare workers.
Then he would like to see staff members who are suseptible to the virus get vaccinated.
Holden said no matter how hard they try to follow all the guidelines, the virus can still spread in a school.
I think it had educators in phase two.
Things i've heard through the grapevine is that maybe we've been prioritized a little higher and maybe we will have the option to be vaccinated sooner rather than later but at this point we still don't have any official word.
Officials with the state health department have said it has a scarce number of the vaccine.
Right now their goal is to get all healthcare workers, nursing home residents, and ems workers vaccinated.
