West Lafayette was named one of the nations safest college towns by safety.com

Now, it's recieving more recognition as one of the safest college towns in the country.

West lafayette has been named the third safest college town in the country according to saftey.com the website used part of it's criteria from a 2019 fbi report on crime.

Safety.com cites a low rate of violent crime as well as complementary programs like animal control and parkin patrol.

Mayor john dennis says keeping crime low is a community effort.

It's the collective, it's the entire community.

And having a strong representation of police officers and firefighters out and about, not just sitting in police cars or sitting in fire stations, out and about interacting positively with that community really bodes well.

Dennis credits communication between citizens, police, fire, and the university for their success.
