Dan, najahe -- the huntsville hospital health system surpassed 500 inpatients for the first time today the county has fifty-four patients in the icu.
And fourty-four patients on ventilators.
Hospital leaders did not expect though that they would be seeing 500 inpatients ten months after the start of the pandemic.
"i didn't predict it.
I'm very proud of the way the hospital's responded to it throughout north alabama and throughout the state of alabama.
I mean hospitals statewide have done a very good job of responding to the increase.
None of us certainly hoped we would get here, but we're here and were going to deal with it."
Huntsville hospital ceo david spillers says the issue will be having enough staff to take care of all the patients.
