Chris mullooly thanks for joining us.
With then end of the holiday season comes the time for students to head back to class for their second semester.for everyone..
It was a learn on the fly experience...and one teachers and staff plan to buil caleb saylor joins us live.caleb... what did fort wayne and east allen leaders expect this coming semester?
Covid-19 was a 3 learning experience for everyone.
How to work from home, how to learn from home and during the first semester of the school year, teachers and district leaders learned new lessons as well, and while many things about the first semester will stay the same in east allen and fort wayne community schools, some changes will happen based off was happened in the first semester to hopefully make the learning experience easier for students in the second.
Lease continue to be supportive of us the second semester.
East allen and fort wayne community schools is spreading as the second half of the school year kicks off.
Schools are still battling the spread of covid-19 and eacs superintendent marilyn hissong says implementing masks, social distancing and hand washing procedures for students and staff has helped them so far.
We have not had a huge, knock on wood, we have not had a huge outbreak of students across the district, and we;re very grateful for that.
Procedures will stay in place for ast allen, but what going to be new for the district is they will make the permanent change to do a ten day quarantine versus a fourteen day, which is supported by the allen county health depare did do that for about the last two and a half weeks of the fall semester and we had a high degree of success.
We did not have any students or staff come back off of quarantine and actually test positive.
But what some families and students will notice are more elementary kids back at school.
Eacs saw a three percent decrease in virtual learning for k through six students, and that number in fwcs was five percent.
Krista stockman with fort wayne community believes such a decrease is due to families realizing how much work teachers have to put into studome of at age.
The older students may be able to work independently , but those younger students really need someone with them, working with them all day long, and for lot of parents, it just not feasible.
Says teachers in fwcs learned they have to battle the tv and other websites for the attention of students e- learning, so the lessons will look different to make sure that improved.
And are asking the make sure things get better, continue being flex ble with your child school e just have to continue working together and our students are in good hands as long as we keep working together.
?ort wayne community students went back to class today and east allen students will be heading back tomorrow morning, and superintendent hissong has a reminder for families sending students back to class this year, hear what she has to say coming up at 10:30.
