Locals in southern India's Karnataka came together on February 5 to take part in a traditional carnival that celebrates the annual Nava Guliga Kola.

Footage shows a deity decorated with various garlands as multiple dance routines and rituals are performed in front of a crowd.

Locals gather in the traditional attire of the carnival and congregate in an "embellished temple" as music is played.

Later, the attendees of the carnival sit surrounding a field, where a band performs while folk artists get ready.

The artists with faces full of traditional makeup perform a folk dance to commemorate the evening.

Furthermore, they are joined by another group with a similar appearance dancing with torches in their hands.

Nava Guliga Kola is celebrated to pay respects to nine shrines.

The carnival is an annual affair in the region.

Several dance rituals are performed as part of the festivities, marking the commencement of the festival, while people from all over the country visit the place to behold the experience.
