An elephant rejuvenation camp at Thekkampatti in southern India has been inaugurated, with 26 elephants from local temples being looked after with a weight reduction plan including workout routines and a healthy diet.
The elephants arrived from temples in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on February 8.
Often held in December-January, the camp was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and is being held in February-March this year, lasting 48 days.
Video filmed on Monday shows the elephants with their human assistants.
Both the animals and their helpers were tested for COVID-19 and allowed entry into the camp after testing negative.
