Footage captured by Twitter user @luisapetino shows the billowing ash and smoke as it covers the sky giving a hellish yellow and orange glow.
Authorities said that nearby towns were not at risk.
Etna is the most active volcano in Europe and regularly erupts.
The highly active, Italian volcano Mount Etna had a fresh eruption on February 19, and the images that ensued were a sight to see.
